Spirit Led Yoga

Definition - What does Spirit Led Yoga mean?

Spirit Led Yoga is a type of Christian yoga in which yoga is practiced in a Christ-centered environment, while embracing many traditional yoga concepts — unlike some styles of Christian yoga. Just like yogis in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, Spirit Led yogis seek union with the Divine, but invite God through the Holy Spirit to guide the practice and the yogis' lives.

Spirit Led Yoga includes Hatha yoga stretching, strengthening and balance poses, as well as meditation, mindfulness, and Christian worship and prayer.

Yogapedia explains Spirit Led Yoga

A project of Stoked Yogi and founder/owner Amelia Travis, Spirit Led Yoga embraces those aspects of yoga philosophy that intersect with the teachings of the Bible. For example, the Spirit Led Yoga website says that Jesus embodies the qualities set forth in the first two limbs of Patanjali's eight limbs of yoga, the yamas and niyamas.

Spirit Led Yoga operates under the belief that yoga is not a religion, but a series of practices that help the yogi attain higher levels of consciousness.

A Yoga Alliance-registered school, Spirit Led Yoga offers teacher training and certification.
