Definition - What does Hom Yoga mean?

Hom Yoga is a contemporary style of yoga practice that incorporates many different types of yogic disciplines in a boutique studio environment. It was founded by Malvina Risby, a former Miss Universe Singapore contestant, and the first studio opened in 2009 in Singapore. There are now studios in Australia as well. Hom Yoga has spread throughout the world via its renown 200-hour teacher training program.

Yogapedia explains Hom Yoga

Risby named the studio Hom Yoga because “hom” sounds like “home” and like “om," the primordial universal sound. She wanted a space that would feel comfortable and peaceful as well as modern, clean and filled with light.

Classes are designed for all levels of experience and incorporate various disciplines, including Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, Flow Express, Yin Yang and several types of Hot yoga practiced in a room heated up to 100 degrees. The Hot yoga classes include the studio's signature Hot Hom, which is a series based on postures from both Hatha and Ashtanga yoga.
