What Does Curvy Yoga Mean?

Curvy yoga is a style of yoga that was developed by Anna Guest-Jelley and is designed for the curvy or plus-sized yogi. An experienced yoga teacher, Guest-Jelly draws on her knowledge and experience to help curvy yogis individualize their yoga practice in this body-inclusive style of yoga.

“Curvy Yoga” is also the title of a book written by Anna Guest-Jelley, subtitled “Love Yourself and Your Body a Little More Each Day,” detailing what this style of yoga entails, and it offers a guide for a curvy-oriented yoga practice.

Yogapedia Explains Curvy Yoga

In 2009, Anna Guest-Jelley launched the practice of Curvy yoga after having struggled to develop a yoga practice when she first started yoga. Yogis come in all sizes and abilities, and the goal of Curvy yoga is to outline all the answers to the most common questions that curvy yogis have. Curvy yoga is targeted toward yogis who have an adversarial relationship with their bodies and those seeking to love their bodies freely.

The book and practice of Curvy yoga is designed to help create a practice and a mind-body connection that is both safe and positive for curvy yogis. Curvy yoga teaches the traditional poses and pose variations/modifications that yogis can use in classes or develop on their own in home practice. Curvy yoga focuses on developing a positive outlook by teaching the spiritual aspects of yoga as well as the physical asanas or poses.

Among yoga styles marketed toward women, like Curvy yoga, is Buti yoga, a powerful vinyasa style of yoga.
