Definition - What does Couch Pose B mean?
Couch pose B is an intermediate posture that increases flexibility, calms the mind and improves focus. It is one of the poses in the Ashtanga intermediate and advanced series. To practice the pose, the yogi sits with his shins on the ground (couch pose A), then carefully lies back until he/she is in a fully reclined position.
The pose is also known by its Sanskrit name, paryankasana B. In other forms of yoga, it is called supta virasana, or reclining hero pose.

Couch pose B should be attempted only after mastering the simpler variation, couch pose A. Yogis who cannot fully recline can practice couch pose B with a stack of blankets or bolster behind the back and supporting the head. Those suffering from heart problems or with knee, ankle or back injuries should avoid couch pose B.
