What Does
Treem Mean?
Treem is a one-syllable sound, or bija mantra, associated with the Hindu goddess, Tara. An avatar of Durga, Tara is a protective deity representing inner knowledge. Bija mantras, or “seed” mantras, typically have no literal meaning, but they do provide a connection to particular energies or spiritual principles, which helps to accelerate emotional, physical and spiritual growth and transformation.
Yogapedia Explains Treem
Chanting treem is believed to provide happiness, unlimited wealth, fame, fortune and success. It is considered beneficial for yogis facing difficult and hostile situations because it strengthens courage and fearlessness. It also provides the protection of Tara with its strong pitta (fire) energy. For yogis trying to break out of their comfort zones, the treem mantra provides the inner strength and courage needed to do so.
Although some mantras translate to English, their meanings are less important than the sound vibrations they create, which provide the actual benefits.
