What Does Asan Point Mean?

The asan point is the state in which a yoga practitioner shifts from focusing on the physical aspects of holding a pose into the mental clarity and stillness that the asana brings. The concept of the asan point is that asanas are primarily a mental practice and only slightly a physical practice. After the yogi has brought their awareness to the breath and holding the physical posture, the mind enters into a calming silence similar to that of a meditation practice.

Yogapedia Explains Asan Point

Patanjali, author of the Yoga Sutras, defines the practice of yoga as “the progressive quieting of the fluctuations of the mind.” During asana practice, one sometimes forgets that the goal is to quiet the mind through the physical practice.

To reach the asan point, enter into the alignment of a pose then take several full breaths. Allow the mind to enjoy the stillness of the present moment. The mind will naturally quiet. This will make the overall practice of yoga more mindful and meditative.
