What Does Half Locust Pose Mean?

Half locust pose is the intermediate version of locust pose, which is an advanced yoga posture.

To enter half locust, lie down on the stomach with the hands by the sides. Place the chin on the floor. Lift the right leg off the floor. Lift the leg as much as possible without bending the knee. Remain in the pose for 20 seconds. Then place the leg on the floor and repeat the same movements with the left leg.

Half locust is called ardha salabhasana in Sanskrit.

To perform a variation of half locust, lie down on the stomach. Lift the right leg and left hand simultaneously. The left hand should remain stretched forward while the right leg stretches backward with the knee straight. Repeat these movements beginning with the left leg.
