Definition - What does Roga mean?
Roga is the name given to a modern style of yoga practice that is specially designed for runners, with the "R" from "run" replacing the "Y" in "yoga."
The idea is that the yogi carries out asanas and breathing techniques aimed at improving their running ability, strength, flexibility and endurance. Roga can help runners to avoid injuries as well as to help them run more effectively. It can also help keep their mind clear and focused while out running.
Yogapedia explains Roga
A course of Roga typically begins with breathing techniques and a mindfulness practice before moving on to postures that improve the runner’s body and mind.
Classes usually include postures that loosen or strengthen areas that runners often have problems with, such as the shins and hamstrings.
These classes vary from one studio to another in their format. As an example, it may cover 30 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes of running and then 30 more minutes of yoga.
