Although it is not commonly practiced, khecari mudra is considered preeminent among the mudras, particularly because it is an advanced technique meant to assist the practitioner in reaching a higher state of consciousness.
Many have trouble completing khecari mudra because the membrane under the tongue isn't flexible enough to reach the nasal cavity. In a gentler variation of the pose, the tip of the tongue touches the fleshy soft part of the palate at the back of the roof of the mouth (without straining), or touches the uvula in the back of the mouth.
Khecari mudra is believed to have the following benefits:
