What Does Geeta Iyengar Mean?

Geeta Iyengar is a world-renowned yoga instructor and oldest daughter of the late B.K.S. Iyengar, who founded the Iyengar yoga method. She is credited with adapting and promoting yoga as a way to improve women’s health.

Like her father, Geeta Iyengar believes yoga unifies the mind and body, strengthening and healing both. She has adapted the practice to meet the unique needs of women; so, she recommends particular postures, breathing exercises and sequences depending on one’s stage of life. Yoga techniques are adapted for young women, pregnant women, new mothers and women in their menopausal years.

Yogapedia Explains Geeta Iyengar

Born in India in 1944, Geeta Iyengar began studying yoga with her father at an early age and taught her first yoga class at about the age of 13.
